Photos de la Route

Cycling — 20-Oct-2005 00:25

Updates may seem few and far between recently, but I’ve been toiling behind the scenes on a few other projects. The first once has been in the works for months, and was a concept bouncing around in my head for even longer. It’s entitled “Photos de la Route”, and chronicles a cycling trip I did with a friend back in 1997. It’s an experience I’ll never forget. Hopefully you can come along for the ride.

There isn’t much there now, just a teaser, but I’ll be adding more content — especially photos — in the coming days.

Canadian War Museum

Invading Italy I was was working in Ottawa a few weeks ago and had a chance to visit the new Canadian War Museum. As far as museums go, it was quite excellent with lots of great exhibits and tons to see, read and watch. I went with my sister and her boyfriend and we spent about four hours there yet only managed to cover about half the museum. I guess we read too much.

The museum strikes a nice balance between honouring the sacrifices made by those who went to war and celebrating Canada’s role as a peacekeeping force. Everything was thoughtfully put together and the number of artifacts on display was quite impressive. Many of the “big picture” displays were interspersed with personal stories of individual soldiers, which was a nice touch.

If you’re ever in Ottawa, this is definitely worth a visit (along with the usual suspects, course).

The latest issue of explore features the “Life List 100: Things you have to do out there”:

The list of great Canadian hikes, bikes, paddles, climbs and must-see destinations is long, long, long. Life , on the other hand, is short. So get going.

So without further ado here are the ones I’ve done (and would highly recommend to others):

Update: Our recent trip North has pushed that number up to 21.
