Switching to LightPress
LightPress 1.0 was released earlier this week and I finally made the switch. I’m really hoping that I haven’t missed anything in the transition — the initial conversion was simple but my test site diverged from my WordPress site several times in the past. If any parts of this site seem broken, please let me know!
I’m much happier with my LightPress templates, they’re much cleaner to work with. I’ve also written a bunch of LightPress plugins — including a new version of Jerome’s Keywords — and they took about 1/4 of the effort of the WordPress versions. I think that’s a pretty good trade. I’ll post the new plugins as soon as I can, along with a quick conversion guide. Ludo has received permission to convert Michael Heilemann’s Kubrick theme so look for that to appear shortly, too.
Comments are the only thing not working properly at the moment. All of my test comments have gone straight to moderation. It could be a Spaminator problem (bundled with LightPress) but it’s more likely a bone-headed configuration error on my part since they seem to work fine on all of the other LightPress sites, including both of my test sites. More to come…
Wow, you did it! And it sports version 1.0-jdev. :)
As for comments, it may have to do with the stopwords in your WP discussion options.
ludo — 05-May-2005 07:31Oh, and your tags plugin (and the Local Tags Cosmos page) look great, are you going to commit them for 1.0.1?
ludo — 05-May-2005 07:34No, I don’t think the spam words are to blame. It’s a very short but ugly list and I don’t see any non-spammers using them.
As for the keywords, originally I was planning to release it. However, the way I hacked in the cosmos has got to be the worst abuse of the LightPress context/template system ever to see the light of day. Hint: the cosmos is generated by the plugin’s hide() method…
jerome — 05-May-2005 09:24Son of a ... Followed your instructions to clear the spam words and now comments work. "Why?" is the question!
jerome — 05-May-2005 19:58Saw it happen in Enrica’s blog too, I cleared it and reinserted a few words at a time, and everything started working. The antispam plugin(s) are in the dev queue anyway… :)
ludo — 06-May-2005 00:09That was the difference from my test site… but I can’t put them back in (at least not all at once) or everything goes to moderation again.
